A board that stops powering the compressor looks like a dead compressor
The control board decides when the compressor runs and sends it the power to do so. If the board stops doing that, the compressor sits silent and the cabinet warms, which from the kitchen looks exactly like a failed compressor. The reverse is just as confusing: a compressor that cannot pump leaves a working board calling for cold that never comes.

The diagnosis should say which of the two has actually failed
Before both parts are priced, ask what was tested. Two findings separate the faults:
- Power at the compressor. Is the board sending power when it calls for cooling? If not, the board or its wiring is the first suspect.
- The sealed system itself. If power arrives and the compressor still does not pump, the sealed system is read with gauges. The 600-3 manual says to enter the sealed system for pressures only when the troubleshooting guides cannot pinpoint the cause.
